Silk/Linen warp print, printed and woven by Turnbull Designs (Thailand). Working for Turnbull Prints, I introduced this unique process to Matthew Williamson, which they ran in their resort 2014 collection. The fabric construction was tailored specifically for the designer.
Vivienne Westwood Opera Coat worn by Joyce DiDonato at the 2013 Proms. Garment and print design by Vivienne Westwood, printed by Turnbull Prints in Lancashire. Challenging project as the digitally printed silk had to retain the drape and feel of raw silk.
Catalytic Clothing is an innovative research project looking at radical ways to purify the air we breathe. 'Herself' concrete/velvet dress worn by Erin O'Connor. Dress designed by Helen Storey, print design by Tactility Factory (Aoife Ludlow), concrete detailing by Tactility factory. A Catalytic Clothing project in conjunction with Tactility factory.
I worked along side Trish Belford (Tactility Factory) to dye the velvet for this project, and apply the concrete 'beading'.
Tactility Factory is an innovative project combining textiles with architecture, making fabric a part of the building process. While working for TF I created this simple geometric design. Laser cut linen and concrete.
Wonderland was a collaboratie project between Helen Storey and Prof. Tony Ryan, highlighting the effect of biodegradable materials on the environment. A collection of beautiful garments were created, to be dissolved over time in water at various locations, raising public awareness. I was on technical support team for this project, printing and laser cutting the fabrics for the garments.
Some snap shots from the stunning video filmed by renowned photographer Nick Knight for the 'Wonderland' project.
While at the University of Ulster, I printed this one off design for Zaha Hadid (on behalf of Turnbull Prints). Interesting project as the fabric was a stretch metallic, and a pigment was specially devised to stretch with the fabric as it was made into the futuristic looking sofa.
Above image showing the screen printing of the fabric for the sofa.
Flex & Ply was a collaborative project between the University of Ulster and Durham University. This innovative research used art and textiles as mechanism for teaching medicine. The Incision gown was designed to show medical students where incisions had to be made for surgical procedures. I was technical support for this project, printing, laser cutting and embroidering a range of wearable teaching aids.
While at the University of Ulster, we were commissioned to embroider garments for some of the lead characters for this hugely successful HBO series. These included the Targaryen coat worn by Viserys and Lanister sleeve sigils worn by Sansa Stark (above), Joffrey and Cersei.
While at the University of Ulster, we were commissioned to develop a fake leather for lead actress Natalie Portman. The holywood star is vegan, and the production team needed a convincing fake leather to replace the animal product.
I exhibited work in the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C as part of the Northern Ireland exhibition in 2007. My work was included in the 'Contemporary Souvenir' exhibition, looking to dispel the image of tacky holiday souvenirs. The exhibition was also displayed at Ormeau Baths Gallery in Belfast.
I spent 4 years as part of the creative team at We Like Soup Ltd. We created original prints, embroidery and laser cut designs for sale to the fashion and interior markets. It was an exciting time creating beautiful fabrics with two very talented young women. Embroidery design by Emma McClintock.
